Come take a step back in time to the glamorous 1970s &1980s-style American Cabaret, the first fusion style of belly dance that set a precedent of creativity that has continued until today. Our costumes shined with sequins, beads and glittery fabrics. Our shows consisted of the classic 3-part or 5-part dance that included playing zills, veil work, standing and floor taksim, drum solos, entrances and finales, and usually having fun and interacting with the audience with a tip section. The style was extremely diverse (America is a melting pot!) as well as physically and technically challenging. The American Cabaret gave birth to the American Tribal Style belly dance. In this unique workshop, you’ll learn fun steps and combinations from the ‘70s & ‘80s that can be used even in your dancing today!
About your instructor:
Alia DiRe is a Certified SharQui Instructor who has been in the dance fitness industry for over 40 years. She got her start in belly dancing in Dallas, Texas, and shimmied her way from Dallas, to a performance in Greece, and all the way to Farmington, New Mexico, where she owned Alia’s School of Middle Eastern Dance in the ‘70s & ‘80s. She was a successful Jazzercise Instructor / Class Owner for 20 years. Seeking to enhance and complement her skills, she is so thankful that she discovered SharQui, as it combines her two passions – authentic belly dancing and dance fitness. She teaches weekly in-person SharQui classes and is also a Virtual Studio Instructor.
