I was teaching class, and one of my students made a comment about how I move between transitions. She said, โYou ripple from one move to the next. Itโs like every movement is super intentional and perfectly timed. You make it look so effortless. How long did it take to nail those small details? A month? A year? A decade?โ
I replied, โHoly sh*t, thank you! Thatโs exactly what I hope people notice. But to answer your question – it took as long as it took.โ
That got me thinkingโฆ
We live in a world thatโs so impatient.
We send an email and expect a response right away. (Yep, thatโs me!)
We set big goals and get annoyed when it takes more than a week or two to see progress. (Also me!)
We want results, like, yesterday with little to no effort. I mean, seriously, donโt we all?
But we know thatโs not how it works.
For me, whether itโs being a business owner, dancer, mentor, or mom, Iโm constantly reminded that behind every win there are sore muscles, trashed first drafts, moments of doubt, and lots of patience and commitment. Itโs about doing the thing, over and over, until you reach your goal.
So after that chat with my student, it hit me – I did the thing – even if it only took 20+ years to make it look effortless.
Now, hereโs my question for you: how long are you willing to work on your thing to reach your goal? And more importantly, whoโs going to be with you along the way?
Weโd love to have you work on your thing with us in the SharQui community. Come dance, sweat, and have fun with us in our SharQui Virtual Studio and/or come grow, instructor and inspire with us inside our Instructor Academy.
You donโt have to do it alone!
