Afro Rhythmix - The Gumbo of African Dance with Tirra

Saturday, June 24th from 1-2 pm EST

As an African American from South USA, Tirra describes her culture as “gumbo,” which is a delicacy of Black people from Louisiana.  Gumbo has a little bit of this and a little bit of that and tastes soooo good! Such is the case with Afro Rhythmix.  It is the Gumbo of Afro Dance!


You will experience various styles of Afro dance from Guinea Africa to Peru, Puerto Rico and Afrobeats, to name a few. Participants will sample several cultural dances and learn a choreography that combines them together. Nourish your soul and body with Afro Rhythmix!

About your instructor:

Tirra Hargrow, African dancer and certified fitness instructor,  is trained in various forms of African dance. From Africa to the African Diaspora, there are many dance forms and rhythms that reflect the beautiful culture of Afro people around the world.  Tirra has learned and taught many of these cultural dances as a teacher and performer at the Global Education Center in Nashville, TN.

In this webinar, Nicole will teach you how to make your students feel like they belong and get them to make your class a habit!  By putting simple, actionable steps into place you’ll watch your attendance grow into a beautiful and warm, close-knit community while having a festive feeling in every class you teach. And not only will you build your community-building skills, but your verbiage and confidence as teacher and community leader.

About your instructor:

Nicole has had a lifelong love of dance and was looking for a local dance class for herself…A class that would embrace mature dancers (50 plus), be a safe space where she would feel comfortable modifying movements to work for her body and share the joy of dance with friendly students. She couldn’t find it so she created it, and it is now her pride and joy!

Nicole is also the owner of Pain Free Philly. She was sidelined by injury and chronic pain for many years and found her way out through corrective exercise, launching Pain Free Philly in 2019. Nicole helps other improve their health, strength and posture and return to doing what brings them joy. She has a Master of Dance Education from Temple University and certifications in Posture Alignment Therapy and Exercise Therapy Skills.

About your instructor:

Oreet, the creator of SharQui – The bellydance workout, has over 25 years of experience in fitness and dance. She has always been fascinated with all dance styles, but bellydance always had a special place in her heart due to her Israeli and Yemenite roots. She is an award-winning performer and holds the titles Bellydancer of the Year, and Middle Eastern Dance Champion of North America, to name a few, and SharQui has been featured on NBC, ABC, CBS and CNN, among other outlets. Oreet’s ultimiate passion is to help people realize their fitness potential and that any BODY can dance! SharQui Workout: Our traditional high-energy bellydance workout.

SharQui 2: Our traditional high-energy bellydance workout but kick it up a notch with more intricate moves.

SharQui Veil: A traditional SharQui Workout infused with safe veil technique. Enhance your workout from the added upper body toning. Veil is optional as options for students without veils will be provided. Beginner friendly.

SharQui Styles: Our traditional high-energy bellydance workout but fused with an inspiration of another dance genre. Each week will be a new dance style fusion.

Dance Strong: Using intense bellydance moves to increase stamina and strength. The use of a chair and light hand weights are used.

SharQui Core: This cross training class combines light weights and Pilates mat exercises with bellydance movements, all focused on strengthening the abdominals and back for SharQui.

Crash Choreo: Learn a 1-2 minute choreography that gets your heart rate up.

Lengthen & Stretch: Explore the many ways to stretch and prep our bodies from head to toes. Myofascial stretching, breath work, visualization, and gyrotonics principles will be used.
