Hey there,
Ana here from the SharQui Team.
“Define dancing” some of them said as they chuckled good naturedly.
What does it mean to dance? Sure, there is the Britannica dictionary definition, which, “is the movement of the body in a rhythmic way, usually to music and within a given space, for the purpose of expressing an idea or emotion, releasing energy, or simply taking delight in the movement itself.”…
Okay, fair. Still… what does it mean?
Why do we dance? What prompts the satisfaction there?
In my honest opinion, dancing is a journey. An experience. A wordless story that the body either shouts, whispers, sings, promotes, wails… the list goes on.
Every hip movement can be an entire statement; the wrists can provide a subtle punctuation; the face elicits emotion; the feet bring the dancer and the audience (if applicable) along for the adventure.
In my teachings, sound is a universal language; Dance is its partner. Together they enwrap in a beautiful pairing, regardless of if the conduit has been a professional dancer or an occasional one who engages when they feel the passion.
When I owned and operated my entertainment company Rhythmic Enterprises years ago, I always used to ask people “What story will your dance tell?”. I made these inquiries to not only encourage people to think on the personal definition, but also to connect on a soul level with dance, be it treated as an act of holistic exercise, or a ritual to nourish the spirit.
However you approach it, pursue it with everything you have. Find that Zen space. I know I did, including when I initially enrolled in the SharQui classes. It was akin to meeting with an old friend for some fun cardio focused activities that always left me feeling proud.
It was the exciting aspect of belly dance without the rigorous training that I would put myself through (mind you, I didn’t do that to my students!). Engaging with those courses inspired different ideas for when I was instructing, and they were able to provide suggestions for alternatives when my chronic injuries started complaining. It was a good balance for me.
I’ve taken literally over a hundred different dance courses with dozens of instructors throughout my life, and while each one held its own value, I certainly had the most ease of access with the SharQui classes. Heck, if it weren’t for my body being perpetually whackadoo with complications, I would have signed up for their instructor academy course some time ago.
Being that I’m a part of the team, I’ve had an inside look as to what they do, and they offer an entire treasure trove of knowledge alongside an airtight system that works very well. I won’t say it will be easy peasy, but I will say that you will learn and grow. Your strengths will be praised, your weaker points will be challenged and recalibrated, and your mind will expand via the sacred science of dance.
As someone who tows the line between metaphysical and sacred sciences, I encountered another level of zen to embrace through SharQui, both when I was a dancer, and now, as a content writer for them. Take that next step and turn the page – give their classes and the academy a try. Here’s your link to higher learning through your passion.
After all, life provides dancing as much as dancing provides life.
Blessings,
Ana
