Hi, Marisa here. I’m SharQui’s Director of Professional Development. And this email is to all current and aspiring dance and fitness instructors out there.
There’s a difference between being an expert and being an authority.
An expert knows the best practices to achieve a certain result. They’ve studied, practiced, and refined their skills. But an authority? That’s a different level.
An authority doesn’t just know the best practices – they safeguard them. They are loyal to the evidence and experiences that have proven those practices effective. And when a student pushes back, challenges the system, or threatens to walk away? The authority stands firm, even if it means letting that student go.
It’s a bold move to claim yourself as an authority, but I urge you to reflect. Ask yourself: Do you truly trust the evidence you’ve gathered through your teaching experiences? Are you confident in your ability to deliver results every time?
If the answer is no, that’s okay – it just means you’re still growing into your authority. But if the answer is yes, then you owe it to yourself to claim that authority. Not loudly to the world, but quietly, firmly, to yourself.
Because when you know you’re right – when your experience and results back you up – you must protect that truth. You must maintain the integrity of your teaching, even if it means losing a student who refuses to align with your standards.
This isn’t about being harsh. It’s about setting boundaries that preserve the quality and integrity of your work. Without those boundaries, best practices become watered down, and your teaching loses its power.
I’ve been teaching SharQui for over 10 years, and the system itself has over 25 years of evidence behind it. I’ve taught thousands of classes and seen the same truth play out every time: this system works.
It can teach anyone to dance. Period.
In all my years, I’ve never lost a student because my classes didn’t meet their needs or weren’t effective. Have students come and gone for life reasons? Of course. But I’ve never had someone leave because they didn’t get results.
Why? Because I know why it works, and I safeguard the system. I hold my standards high and don’t bend. If someone were to challenge the integrity of the method, I would stand my ground – even if it meant losing them as a student.
When you believe in your teaching that strongly, you become unshakeable.
I want you to feel more than just a dance fitness instructor. I want you to feel like an authority in your craft and walk into every class with the posture of someone who knows their sh*t – unfazed by doubts, questions, or challenges because their knowledge and experience speak for themselves.
If you feel like your teaching could use a tune-up, or your confidence isn’t where you want it to be, SharQui can help. This system isn’t just about choreography; it’s about building fearless, unshakeable teachers.
I’m sweet and kind, like a fuzzy peach on the outside. Bite into it, I’m a solid rock of trust and confidence in what I do, how I do it, and why I do it.
I want that for you.
So let me ask you…
How can we help you claim your inner authority?
We’re here to help,
Marisa
