Practicing and Learning How to Teach SharQui

What you’ve learned in SharQuí is probably radically different from anything you’ve experienced before. You may have realized you had to throw out what you knew of teaching bellydance and fitness because you started from scratch!

Now if you came into this as a teacher, hear me out…

Being an expert in teaching dance or fitness isn’t the same as being a kick-ass instructor.  In some cases they go hand in hand but most of the time they don’t. I’ve known and been in many classes where the instructor had so much value and insight to share, the only problem was, they had no idea how to present the material in a way that students would engage and most importantly, understand. As a result, student retention drops, and you end up spending more time wondering what’s up, then you do polishing your skills.

Now if you haven’t been in continuing education since your grade school or college days, becoming a student again can be tough – I know.  But the best classes are taught by the best instructors.  And how the best instructors got to be where they are now is because they actually care about their ability to teach.

“Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.” ― John F. Kennedy

So what does it mean to be a kick-ass instructor?  It’s practice, and not quitting when shit gets hard.  I repeat, because we are radically different, you’re probably not breezing through this right now… am I right?

So we offer opportunities for coaching by teaching a community class or participating in the instructor challenge and annual practical to WORK on your skills on your own, and then being BRAVE to practice in front of a mentor for  feedback. You need to take ACTION in order for the learning to resonate. So that means studying and preparing beforehand, as well as learning on the spot.

Again, SharQui is radically different from what you are used to, so when it comes to practicing, it’s all about the small wins.  Pace yourself and practice in small chunks.  You don’t move on to the next chunk until you nailed the previous chunk.  This is the mindset work that will help you when shit gets hard.

As a teacher you want your students to get big results… right?  Then so should YOU, with your practice.  So, keep your eye on the prize my friend and get to the finish line.  You are going to be just fine.  I promise.

How can I promise that?  Because another way SharQuí is radically different from anything else you may have done is the support we offer.  The opportunities for coaching and mentoring are INCLUDED 4 times a year!  AND our Crew Facebook group allows you to ask as many questions as you want, whenever you want!  Know what else?  You can email or message anytime you need a direct communication with us!  You will get an answer!

So as you might see, some people fear radicalism, while others embrace it.  To be different makes you stand out amongst a crowd. So don’t fear it.  It’s your key to being the most amazing teacher you can be AND give you a leg up.

Now go and be amazing!
